Why I Love Being a Mom and Blogger

This is an official entry to Dainty Mom’s Bloggy Goodies Contest, in celebration of the Dainty Mom blog’s 2nd anniversary.

I was a blogger before I became a mom

Though it may not be considered what is called “blogging” today, I was a blogger long before I became  a mom. I started a personal journal (also fondly known as the diary) back in 4th grade. It was where I shared my thoughts, my feelings, my deepest secrets. It shared my laughter and tears, my hopes and dreams. My journal was where I poured my heart and frustrations out. All the way to 1st year college, I maintained a written journal that chronicled my life.

Then I discovered Livejournal.

Livejournal introduced me to the concept of blogging online, and I began to neglect my written journal in favor of it. My Livejournal blog definitely changed me in so many ways. I became exposed to the different cultures around the world as I made friends from people across the globe. We bonded over the experiences we shared in our blogs.

I even fell in love (and got my heart broken) by someone I connected with in Livejournal. We even met once, in a far, far away land. But ahh, that story is too long to tell, and I still need to finish this post.

But soon, life interfered again, and I began neglecting my Livejournal blog. I graduated from the university. Got a job and resigned after a couple of months. Went on vacation abroad and went back home to study another degree. Married and became a mom. Went back to work.

Blogging became a distant memory…

I am a mom, first and foremost, before I am a blogger

Having children changed my life forever. I never knew I could love someone so unconditionally, until the moment I pushed my son out of my womb and feasted my eyes on his precious form. So small, so delicate, I knew I would give my life for him.

I’m not the perfect mother, however. Far from it, really. There are days when I’m tired and frustrated, when my temper gets frayed, and my patience wears thin. And after having my second baby in December last year, life has even become more hectic with a baby and a toddler.

But I wouldn’t trade my life for the world, because even if I’m not perfect, I believe my life is pretty darn perfect just the way it is. With my loving husband by my side, and my wonderful kids in tow, I know I can conquer the world…

Coming full circle

And once again, I feel compelled to put my thoughts into words…

And so The Articulate Pen was born. It’s a mixture of my experiences with parenting, my relationship with my husband, my journey as an online writer, and other random things about my life. It feels great to write again, not because someone assigned you to write about a topic, but to write merely for the sake of writing. To form your thoughts into cohesive sentences, and share your experiences with the world.

But as much as I love blogging, my family comes first. They are the most important people in my life, and they will always be my priority. I’m glad, though, that I can be both a mom and a blogger. Maybe I still need to find the right balance, but I know I’ll get there someday.
